Juanita Ruys: A Life of Writing
After 25 years in the academic world, I have now established my own writing business and am bringing all my writing skills, expertise, and knowledge to the wider community. Nothing makes me happier than to help local businesses and community, Indigenous, and sporting groups gain grant funding so they can build the infrastructure they need, grow their businesses, and implement programs that benefit the health and wellbeing of their communities.
With a first-class Honours degree and a PhD in English from the University of Sydney, I know what writing is about. I have published books and scholarly articles of my own, I have supervised PhD students and mentored them in writing skills, and I have edited six volumes of essays, learning the skills of copyediting, proofreading, and indexing along the way.
I have a particular talent for grant-writing. As well as consulting to other academics in the University, I have won $1M in grants in my own right, and a further $27M in collaborative network and centre of excellence grants. This means I bring you a strong understanding of what granting bodies are looking for and how to provide it clearly and succinctly.
Since starting this business in 2020 I have obtained $1.25M in grants.
With a stint as a technical writer at a manufacturing plant, I have also developed skills in writing processing manuals and SOPs.
